Choosing a Plastic Surgeon
When choosing the best plastic surgeon to suit your needs, there are multiple considerations to bear in mind:
Is the surgeon board-certified?
Dr. Andrade is a fully qualified plastic surgeon. After medical school he completed his five-year specialist training in Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto, a program with an international reputation of excellence. He is in good standing with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and multiple other medical and surgical societies.
Is the surgeon well-trained and skilled?
Dr. Andrade was fortunate to receive training from some of the top cosmetic breast and body contouring surgeons in downtown Toronto. The same skills and techniques he learned from these surgeons and subsequent education are offered locally, which for many patients is more convenient and cost-effective. Dr. Andrade has performed hundreds of breast and body contouring operations. In addition, he attends yearly conferences and meetings to learn the latest plastic surgery techniques in augmentation mammoplasty, abdominoplasty, mastopexy, breast reconstruction, body contouring after massive weight loss, liposuction contouring and other procedures.
Is the surgeon competent?
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario regulates all physicians in Ontario. Disciplinary proceedings are posted. Dr. Andrade is in good standing with no disciplinary proceedings. When choosing a plastic surgeon, patients are advised to research their surgeon on the CPSO website.
Does the surgeon have hospital privileges?
It is important to choose a plastic surgeon with hospital privileges in the region where they perform surgery. These credentials are necessary for a physician to admit their patient to hospital if there is any unexpected problem during or after surgery. Dr. Andrade is on staff at Southlake Hospital, where he is Chief of the Plastic Surgery Division.
Is the surgical facility properly maintained and run?
Dr. Andrade’s facility is accredited by the Out of Hospital Premises Inspection Program (OHPIP) of the CPSO. It is staffed by fully trained Registered Nurses and Anaesthesiologists. Dr. Andrade has done work for the CPSO OHPIP program since its inception in 2011 inspecting other surgical facilities, which helps him to also reflect on his own practice and ensure it meets the latest standards and requirements.
There are numerous regulatory bodies that govern Physicians and Surgeons in Canada including the Ontario Medical Association, the Canadian Medical Asscociation, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
