Choosing a Trusted Plastic Surgeon

When looking for a surgeon to do cosmetic surgery in Ontario, it can be overwhelming trying to find the best plastic surgeon that will suit your individual needs. How does one go about narrowing the field?

What is the difference between a Plastic Surgeon and a “Cosmetic Surgeon”?

When looking for a surgeon for plastic surgery, Board Certified Plastic Surgeons have done their years of training and residency in the field of Plastic Surgeons whereas “Cosmetic Surgeons” can be practitioners from other specialties who are doing cosmetic procedures. Dr. Andrade is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who also obtained his Ph.D. in Cellular & Molecular Pathology at the University of Toronto.

How do I find a trusted surgeon?

In addition to looking on review sites, it is always best to trust a direct referral from a patient who has had a positive experience with a particular surgeon. If one does not have a direct patient referral, individuals can visit the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) website to see if a doctor has previous complaints or disciplinary action pending. Dr. Andrade is an Assessor for the CPSO and has been involved in the inspection of other plastic surgery clinics since the inception of the Out of Hospital Premises Inspection Program in 2011.

Dr. Andrade has a 5-star rating on RateMDs, realself.com and Google.

How do I find a surgeon with hospital privileges?

It is important to have a surgeon who is affiliated with their local hospital if, in the rare event a patient needs extra care in a hospital setting. Some surgeons do not have hospital privileges and cannot admit the patient should he/she require emergency or extra care. Dr. Andrade has been affiliated with Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket since he started his practice in 2005 and was the Chief of Plastic Surgeon for over 5 years.

How experienced is the surgeon?

When patients are looking for a specific surgery, they often ask how many of these surgeries are performed by the surgeon each year. Dr. Andrade performs approx. 400 breast augmentations and over 150 tummy tuck surgeries per year. With this volume, Dr. Andrade likely has one of the busiest breast and body surgery clinics in Ontario.

Examples of the surgeon’s work: Dr. Andrade has hundreds of before and after photos on his website that serve for educational purposes showing patients realistic outcomes after surgery. Patients want to see examples of the surgeon’s outcomes before signing up for surgery. Dr. Andrade often reviews his photo gallery with patients during the consultation when discussing the patient’s desired goals.
