This patient developed significant pospartum breast sagging and decreased size (“involutional ptosis”). She received a simultaneous breast augmentation and lifting procedure (called a “vertical mastopexy”). She was quite petite and had significant stretch marks and poor skin elasticity. During her operation, we inserted smaller-sized 200cc cohesive silicone gel implants to avoid excessive breast weight, in order to decrease the risk of postoperative sagging. The implants were inserted in a submuscular pocket to add another layer of tissue coverage, to make it less likely to see or feel ripples in the implants. We then performed a breast lift to tighten the breast skin and elevate the nipple.
Dr. Andrade often suggests this type of procedure for patients with very loose skin or advanced breast sagging, because it can greatly improve the breast shape. The postoperative photos shown here were taken 4 months following surgery, and scars will usually continue to fade for up to 1 year.
