Description
This 48-year-old woman was 5’3” tall and weighed 176 lbs (BMI 31). Previously at a different clinic, she had a non-surgical procedure called cryolipolysis. This procedure involves cooling the fatty layer to cause some of the fat cells absorb, which is supposed to provide a more “sculpted” look. Instead, she developed an area of even thicker, abnormally firm fatty tissue on the upper abdomen (a condition called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, PAH). Dr. Andrade performed a drainless abdominoplasty including rectus muscle plication, power-assisted liposculpture (PAL) of the bulging areas and flanks, and sequential tension wound closure. In addition to removing much of the excess adipose tissue the overall contour of the abdomen was improved, with the appearance of muscle definition. Also notice on the oblique and lateral views, the mons pubis (FUPA) has been reduced and lifted so it is more proportionate with her flatter abdomen. The “after” photos are taken one year postoperatively.
