This 43 year old teacher developed postpartum skin laxity which had not improved with exercise. She was 5’6” tall and weighed 170 pounds. Despite having lost 20lbs by following a healthy diet and routine exercise regimen, her skin remained loose. The patient had outpatient tummy tuck surgery at the clinic, followed by nursing assessments at her home on the evening of surgery, the following morning, and two days later. The meticulous surgical technique included tightening the muscles to improve the core contour (rectus muscle plication), a deep layer of dissolving sutures which make drains unnecessary (called sequential tension closure), and 3-layer closure of the wound using special sutures that have unique advantages. Dr. Andrade has found that this wound closure technique (Stratafix barbed sutures) greatly reduces wound healing problems, such as suture extrusion or wound opening.
