    About Breast Augmentation

    Breast augmentation is Dr. Andrade’s most common surgical procedure. Women considering breast implants want to have a curvier shape, restore upper breast fullness and perkiness after pregnancy, or correct asymmetry. Implants available in Canada all have a silicone outer shell but they are either filled with saline or silicone gel.

    Discuss your goals

    Surgeon takes accurate measurements, assess skin tone, elasticity

    Review incision, pocket placement, implant sizing and before-and-after gallery of Dr. Andrade’s work 3D imaging machine photos taken (must be a candidate without sagging or asymmetry)

    Try on sizers

    Consultation fee of $100 is put toward surgery

    Where does the surgery take place?
    Dr. Andrade owns and is director of The York Plastic Surgery Centre, conveniently located off highway 404 just 20 minutes north of Toronto. A highly credentialed surgical team of fellowship-trained anesthesiologists and nurses work at his facility. Dr. Andrade also has hospital privileges and is the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket. It is important to choose a surgeon who has admitting privileges at a hospital, in case more advanced care is required after surgery. Dr. Andrade offers hospital-based care to patients who require an overnight stay, a combined OHIP procedure, or who have pre-existing medical conditions.
    What is the recovery time?
    Dr. Andrade never makes false claims that patients will fully recover in only one day. Beware the “24 Hour Recovery Breast Augmentation” marketing claim. No surgeon can change the fact that breast tissue takes many weeks to heal after any operation, no matter how meticulous or careful the surgical technique.

    The vast majority of patients are doing moderate activities within only a few days after surgery. However, Dr. Andrade recommends avoiding vigorous exercise for 4-6 weeks postoperatively. Some surgeons claim that their patients have a “rapid recovery” in only a day, but there is no way to make surgical wounds heal in this time frame. Dr. Andrade’s uses the same techniques as most reputable surgeons, but he is realistic in his approach when it comes to post-op care. His primary concerns are patient safety and good long-term results, rather than unrealistic promises in order to attract clients.
    What is my postop care?
    Dr. Andrade personally meets with all of his major surgery patients for every postoperative visit to address their questions and/or concerns after surgery. Dr. Andrade’s nursing team, an integral part of the patient’s post operative care, is also highly experienced and attentive.
    Do I meet with the surgeon for my consultation?
    Yes, it is important that the patient meets the surgeon during the in-person consultation. Dr. Andrade never performs a “virtual consultation” since a proper breast examination is an essential part of the consultation. It is impossible to properly assess tissue thickness, skin tone, nipple position, and chest shape on photos or video. The majority of the consultation is with Dr. Andrade. Unfortunately, some surgeons delegate a nurse or non-medical “cosmetic consultant” for this important role.
    How are breast implants selected?
    The first step in breast implant selection is listening to the patient’s unique goals and anticipated results, then doing a detailed physical examination to determine which implants will fit the breast shape. After taking this information into consideration, the final implant choice can be determined by trying on implant sizers, using 3D virtual before and after images (Vectra), and looking at before-and-after wish pics.

    Operations performed at the facility are done on an out-patient basis with in home nursing care as needed. Patients requiring more complex surgeries stay overnight at the hospital.
